If you are adding an additional owner to a Coast Guard Documented vessel, you are, for all intents and purposes, transferring interest and a percentage of ownership. If two individuals own a US Coast Guard Documented vessel and the ownership percentage is not specifically stated, each individual owns 50% of that vessel.
You will need to submit a Transfer of Interest on the notarized CG-1340 Bill of Sale showing the percentage of ownership transferred, along with a request for Transfer/Exchange in order to add the additional owner (your wife) to the documentation.
Filing this application will renew the Documentation for one year, unless you elect to add additional years (up to five) via the webform application.
