When transferring ownership of a US Coast Guard Documented vessel, the CG-1340 Bill of Sale or the back side of the CG-1270 Certificate of Documentation MUST be notarized. There are no exceptions. Notarization prevents unlawful or fraudulent transfers of ownership of vessels Documented in the United States.
