US Coast Guard Documented vessels are Federally registered by the National Vessel Documentation Center. Vessels 5 net tons or larger may obtain Documentation, and carry onboard a Certificate of Documentation CG-1270 as opposed to a State Title. Documented vessels do not have titles.
Documented vessels have an Official Number located onboard, either on an affixed plaque or engrained into the hull, as opposed to registration stickers or decals.
